What is Grillun?

Grillun is a reusable, wire-free grill cleaning tool designed to clean hot grill grates using half of a fresh onion. It offers a natural alternative to traditional wire grill brushes and features a durable, high-temperature Cerakote® finish.

How does Grillun work?

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Cut an onion in half, place the rounded side the Grillun holder, then glide it across the hot grill grates. The onion’s natural moisture helps loosen grease and food residue while cleaning the cooking surface. You can use on a cold grill too but not as effective.

Why use an onion to clean a grill?

Using an onion to clean a hot grill is a time-tested grilling tradition. The onion’s natural moisture helps loosen stuck-on residue, making cleanup easier. Grillun makes this method safer, cleaner, and more convenient by securely holding the onion.

Does Grillun replace a wire grill brush?

Yes. Grillun is a wire-free alternative to traditional grill brushes. Because it has no metal bristles, there is no risk of loose wire bristles ending up on your food or grill grates.  

Does Grillun work as well as a wire brush?

Grillun is highly effective for routine grill maintenance and cleaning fresh grease and food residue from hot grill grates. For grills with years of heavy carbon buildup, additional deep cleaning may be needed before regular maintenance with Grillun.

Does Grillun season my grill?

Cleaning with an onion leaves behind a light layer of natural moisture that complements routine grill maintenance. For cast iron, proper seasoning with cooking oil should still be performed as needed.

What type of onion should I use?

Yellow onions are the most popular choice, but white, sweet, and red onions also work well. Simply cut a fresh onion in half before use. If the onion is too big peel a layer or two off and push it in.

Can I reuse the onion?

We recommend using a fresh onion each time you grill. Discard the used onion after cleaning.

When should I use Grillun?

Grillun works great before cooking to prepare your grill grates and after cooking while the grill is still warm for quick cleanup. however i Use mine throughout the cooking process to knock of any bits and pieces keeping my grill nice and clean to get that golden color we are all aiming for.

Does Grillun require batteries or electricity?

No. Grillun is completely manual and requires no batteries, electricity, charging, or replacement parts.

Does Grillun require chemicals?

No. Grillun uses a fresh onion to naturally clean grill grates, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals during routine cleaning.

Is Grillun dishwasher safe?

Remove any onion residue and hand wash Grillun with warm water and mild soap. Allow the tool to cool completely before cleaning.

Is the Cerakote® coating heat resistant?

Yes. Grillun features a premium high-temperature Cerakote® ceramic coating designed for demanding grilling conditions and can withstand temps up to 1800 degrees F.
